Seeing this always makes me smile…and that’s priceless.

Ehler Spliedt – Mythical bird-man
Simplicity and elegance
Bernice Goldmark – Bird with long tail feathers
I love the delicacy of the painting, the soothing colors, and the rhythm of the design with the large branch moving the eye down and the bird moving it up gracefully.
Paul Lei – Covered jar with fish in lotus pond
It’s an ironic item for this period.
Barbara Fredrick – Emperor’s dragon robe
Beautiful fabric and colorwork.
Maureen Ray – The Buddhist deity Simhavaktra Dakini
It seems to be alive! It engages me immediately when I walk into the gallery.
john mcdonnell – Octopus in octopus pot (inscribed with haiku)
It demonstrates attention to detail: limpets/barnacles on pot, octopus looks alive. Typifies Japanese aesthetics: simple everyday work object made beautiful (the fishing pot and the netsuke, a simple clothing attachment). Not bright big or showy: again, the Japanese subtly found in its flavors, language and social fabric. To me this IS Japan in a nutshell made of wood and glass..
Anita Chung – The Stone Table Garden
I love Chinese brush drawing!
Carole Gonsalves – The Buddhist deity Simhavaktra Dakini
The powerful energy and elegance of the dancer.
Gary Bruner – Sunrise on New Year’s morning
Were the European Impressionists aware of this work? If not for the obviously Japanese lady, I might have thought this was painted by Vincent van Gogh!
