The color and design is so unique in comparison to the other vases on display. Upon walking through the galleries the Membership team by coincidence all chose this vase to be their favorite.
Submission
David Menke – Hand of Buddha Tang , Polished Grey Limestone
It is massive, powerful and sensual. Mostly I chose it to get it on view!
Tony Talarico – Bridal robe (hwalot)
I love the beautiful mix of colors in this Korean hanbok. I try to visit the Korean galleries whenever it is on view.
Lara Lei – The Buddhist deity Simhavaktra Dakini
When I look at her, I feel like I’ve plugged into an electric socket. I don’t know whether to run away in terror or surrender laughing in ecstatic juicy bliss. She is beautiful as the crayon marks on the wall marking growth. She is mindfully dizzy as Los Angeles freeway drivers in the rain. She is strong as a post-natal ballerina upside-down in aerial dance. She is fleshy as my mother’s king bed-sized breast. She is clear as dead deer’s eye reflecting a hunter’s tear. She is hollow light.
Sukie Grounds – Jar
The contrast of its size and its simplicity is quite striking. The fact that the jar is not perfectly round adds a little bit of drama to the calm.
Lex van Zyl – The bull Nandi
When I first started coming to the museum, in the De Young, Nandi was down stairs as you entered the then Brundage collection. He was alway such a joy to see
Laurel Waycott – Large footed cup with decoration of wild goats
Goats!!
Tracy Good – The lama Buton Rinchen Drub
It speaks to the perpetual student in me and represents great teachings from the core from which all manifestation arises.
Doug Yule – California Coastline
This screen depicts a familiar and dearly loved subject in a way new and welcome to my eyes and my heart
Sharon Steckline – Morning glories (incense wrapper)
I love flowers and it is an iconic image.
